Barrett Minor

Barrett Neill Minor, 27, of Lorena, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Lorena with Rev. Chris Wommack and Rev. John Hardin officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with Barrett's family will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.

Barrett was born March 1, 1984 in Temple to Mark Neill Minor and Teresa Williamson Minor. He graduated from Lorena High School in 2002 and from Baylor University in 2008 with a degree in Environmental Studies and Earth Science. He married Sarah Terrell in Salado in 2007 and was the proud father of his 4 year old son, Jackson. At the time of Barrett's death, he was employed at UPS in Waco.

As a child, Barrett's mom fondly remembers her first born's beautiful blue eyes and will never forget the times he would hold up his hands towards her and say "hold you mommie". Growing up, Barrett was an outdoorsman and was most at home when hunting, fishing or snow skiing. He loved to hunt whether it was deer, ducks or geese. He also loved to fish and had taken Jackson, along with his special Spiderman rod and reel, numerous times. Barrett throughly enjoyed hunting with his dad. They spent countless hours together in both the duck and deer blinds. Every year, on opening day of deer season, Barrett and Mark sat in the same duck blind simply because it was "tradition". They continued that tradition even through this past hunting season. Barrett loved to cook and would spend all the time necessary to season and cook the perfect steak. In high school, he was dedicated to power lifting taking 4th place his senior year. When Barrett set his mind to something, there was no stopping him.

Barrett always made his young brother, Brady feel safe. When Barrett was a senior in high school, Brady was a freshman. This made Brady's transition to high school much smoother and much more comfortable knowing his big brother had his back and that no one would mess with him. One of Brady's favorite memories with his brother was when Barrett shot a big buck just before nightfall and claimed Brady was his "good luck" charm. Brady was never into hunting as much as Barrett, but one duck season, he decided to go along with his brother and dad. Brady was given the first few shots. Barrett eagerly congratulated Brady for nailing the first few ducks of the season.

His pride and joy was his son, Jackson. They shared special times together at the ranch, which Jackson calls "Papi Ranch". They would search for "treasures" with a metal detector, go on " high adventure" hikes in the woods, ride 4 wheelers and the tractor as well as Jackson's favorite past times, throwing rocks in the creek and putting out "deer corn".

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Carroll Minor.

Barrett is survived by his wife, Sarah; his son, Jackson; parents, Mark and Teresa Minor; brother, Brady Minor; paternal grandmother, Ann Minor; maternal grandparents, Jim and Dickie Williamson; great aunts, Alta Leath and Linda Minor; several uncles, aunts, cousins; and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Steve Minor, Lane Minor, John Minor, Tom Leath, Daniel Short and Travis Short.
