Betty Carpenter Thompson, 79, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2009 after a lengthy illness.

Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 14, in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Pauls Valley, OK. The family will receive friends 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday at their residence.

Betty was born September 25, 1929 in Moore, Oklahoma to Elmer and Lilly Coursey Fox. Betty graduated from Oklahoma State University where she met her future husband, Leonard B. Carpenter. They were married May 29, 1951 and lived in Dallas until his death in 1991. In Dallas, Betty taught second and third grades for many years. On July 30, 1993, she married Silas Thompson of Dallas and moved to Pauls Valley, OK and to Denison, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her first husband, Leonard B. Carpenter.

Betty is survived by her loving husband, Si Thompson of Waco; son, Dr. Ed Carpenter and wife, Bonnie of Waco; daughter, Sandi Stewart and husband, Cal of Idabel, OK; step-daughter, Vicki Thompson of Dallas; sister, Mildred Turner of Midwest City, OK; grandchildren, Greg Carpenter and wife, Julia, Haley Carpenter, Will Carpenter, Ashley, Amanda and Jason Stewart; step-grandchildren, Dusty, Justin and Tyler; sister-in-laws, Margaret Blackerby of Oklahoma City, OK and Mary Ellen Briscoe and husband, Jim of Longmont, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the personnel of Wesley Woods and especially the caring staff of the Willow Unit who tremendously enriched Betty's life for the last year and a half. Memorials may be made to Wesley Wood's Alzheimer's Care Center, 1700 Woodgate Drive, Waco, TX 76712
