Bill Cagle, 84, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at his residence. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 8, 2010 at Cogdell United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kay Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery with military honors. Visitation with his family will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at OakCrest Funeral Home.
Bill was born April 27, 1925 in Guntersville, Alabama to Arthur Cagle and Sarah Cagle Cagle. He served his country in the US Navy during WWII and again in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Bill married Joy Combs on June 6, 1981 in Waco. He was a member of the Professional Photographers Association of Central Texas serving as President in 1965 and worked for many years with Windy Drum and Jimmy Willis. Bill's work was documented in the 1953 Waco tornado documentary when he photographed the destruction and aftermath of the tornado. Bill later retired after 15 years of employment with Service Merchandise as a Department Manager. Bill was an active member of Cogdell United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his step daughter, Karen Davis.
Bill is survived by his wife, Joy Cagle of Waco; step son, Larry Davis and wife, Kim of Waco; grandson, Paul Davis and Mason Davis both of Waco; sisters, Laura Makowski of Waco, Barbara Little and husband, Johnny and Maebelle Ogle and husband, Horace all of Guntersville, Alabama; his brother, Howard Cagle and wife, LaRae of Henderson, Nevada; many nieces and nephews and his beloved cat, Muffin.
Pallbearers will be Maynard Miller, Earl Perryman, Bill Collier, Joe Taube, Bill Smyers and Richard Gough.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Bluebonnet Hospice for their loving care of Bill. In lieu of floral arrangements, memorials may be directed to Cogdell United Methodist Church.
