Bill Ferguson, 82, of Waco, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011at Ridgecrest Retirement Center with his wife and daughter at his side. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at OakCrest Funeral Home Chapel with Ernie Christie officiating. Burial will follow at Coolidge Cemetery with military honors. Visitation with Mr. Ferguson's family will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Bill was born December 5, 1928 in Speegleville to Liddell Ferguson and Jessie Merrill Ferguson. Bill married Jewel Coker on February 18, 1953 in Waco. He worked for the American Red Cross as the Director of Blood Services for 17 years before joining the Austin-Closs Company as a saleman where he worked for 34 years until his health declined just three months ago. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Bill enjoyed fishing, dove hunting and traveling with his wife, Jewel. Bill was also well known for his love of Baylor Bear sports. He was a member of Lake Shore Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bill is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jewel; daughter, Rhonda Bremser of Wharton; brother, Blandon Ferguson of San Antonio; sister, Keet Nelson of San Antonio; granddaughters, Lauren Brooke Hlavinka of El Campo and Amy Nicole Bremser of Wharton; great grandson, Carter Scott Hlavinka; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Colin Hlavinka, Robert Coker, Ace Closs, Dr. Garland Novosad, George Jansky and Gene Kroll.
