Bill Mallick passed away peacefully Saturday, October 27 at his home, surrounded by family. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 30 at OakCrest Funeral Home. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 31 at St. Mark Lutheran Church with Pastor James Price officiating. Burial will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pinecrest Cemetery in Troup, Texas.
Bill was born July 16, 1929 in Missoula, Montana to Dr. George and Winifred Mallick. In high school, he worked summers for Don Tomlinson, a great family friend who instilled in Bill the love of building and craftsmanship.
With his love for math and problem solving, he graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Montana State University in 1951. He made many lifelong friends in the SAE fraternity.
He served in the Air Force as a First Lt. in Korea. Afterwards, he did pipeline engineering work in Wyoming before marrying Peggy Click in Houston in 1957. They moved to Casper, where he started a homebuilding business and later worked in commercial construction there. He loved his church, Mount Hope Lutheran in Casper, where he eagerly taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir (directed by Peggy). His son Mike was born in Casper in 1958.
He ran, skied, golfed, fished and invented games with a zest that inspired everyone around him. He took great pride in running 50 miles on the weekend of his 50th birthday, completing two marathons, and finishing numerous 10K runs. Rather than surrendering to back pain, he researched, wrote, and distributed a book to alleviate the pain of others.
In 1989, Bill and Peggy moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he was self-employed as an Environmental Consultant. He was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, teaching and mentoring high school youth as he had in Casper. While in Albuquerque, he was diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), a rare type of Parkinson's disease that slowly took his balance, speech and motor skills.
True to his generous, giving, and kind spirit, he never once complained about his problems but approached life with inventiveness, joy, and good humor.
Following retirement due to PSP, the family moved to Waco in 2000. With the help of their son, he lived an active, fun, and meaningful life as a beloved member of St. Mark Lutheran church. He loved filling his home with inventions, going to concerts and movies, travelling, singing, being a gracious host, and being an active member of the community until the very end.
He often said that his life's greatest accomplishment was sharing the Lord's love with young people in Sunday School and youth groups. His wife, his son, and his Lord were truly the loves of his life.
The family gives special thanks to Dr. David Gogulski of Scott & White, and also Sheri, Janey, and Rodney of Scott and White Hospice for their love, care, and support. They, along with Bill's many beloved friends, made his last year a joy.
Survivors include wife, Peggy; son, Mike of Waco; brother, Richard Mallick and wife Janet of Missoula, MT; brother-in-law, Robert Click and wife, Martha of Dallas, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
