William E. "Cookie Man" Martin, 73 of Woodway passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 after one month of being diagnosed with lung cancer. Mass of Christian burial will be 10 am Saturday at St. Jerome Catholic Church with father Rakshaganathan Selvarha and Deacon Rae as celebrant. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. with the Rosay at 6 p.m. at OakCrest Funeral Home,4520 Bosque Blvd.
Bill was born in Louisville, Kentucky on June 11, 1933 to John and Gertrude (O'Sullivan) Martin. He served two years in the armed forces in Korea. Bill worked for his father in the grocery and restaurant business. Bill married the former Wanda Hettinger on November 17, 1956. They recently celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Bill was transferred to San Antonio with Little Brownie Bakers for five years. He then affiliated with Weston Biscuit Company in Waco in 1974 and two years later started his own Martins Distributing Company. Bill was preceded in death by his father and brother, David Martin.
Bill is survived by his wife, Wanda; mother, Gertrude Martin of Louisville, Kentucky; sons, Ron Martin and wife Beverly of Baton Rouge,LA, Richard Martin and Kevin Martin of Hewitt; daughter, Debbie Martin of Tidesville, FL; granddaughters, Amy Brewer and husband Don of Louisville, Kentucky and Jennifer Doty and husband Ryan of Baton Rouge, LA; four great grandchildren; sister, Cathy Rogers and husband Bill of Louisville, Kentucky.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Kolb, Dwain Barber, Wayne Smith, Dave DeGroot, Hugo Gorgas, Gary Clark and David Posey.
