Bill Newman, 62, of China Spring, died Thursday, March 1, 2007 at Providence Health Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at China Spring United Methodist Church with Rev. Allen Grant officiating. Burial will follow at China Spring Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at OakCrest Funeral Home.
Bill was born July 7, 1944 at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco. He graduated from Waco High in 1962, and then served for a brief period in the U.S. Navy. After he returned to Waco, he worked for several years as a radio disc jockey. He married the love of his life, Carolyn Jean McClain, in Hubbard, on February 14, 1970. He was employed at Owens Illinois Glass Plant from August 1966 until he was laid-off during downsizing in October 1984. After the glass plant, he worked in electronics at Montgomery Wards until he went to work for Gordon Rountree Used Cars in August 1990. He was employed by Rountree until April 2006.
Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolyn, on June 26, 1994.
Survivors include his only son, Cody Newman and wife, Randi of Harker Heights; mother, Hazel Haik of Waco; mother-in-law, Alice Ruth McClain of Hubbard; two half-sisters, Becky Haik of Waco and Paula Sais of DeSoto; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
