Billie Jean Barber

Billie Jean Barber, 89, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, November 9, 2014, after a short illness. A celebration of her life will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at OakCrest Funeral Home with Pastors Carroll Hambrick and Dick Wooten officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at OakCrest Funeral Home 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Billie was born in Italy, Texas, to Claude and Lamorah Wolaver on September 19, 1925. She attended high school in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She married Leon Barber in 1943. The couple had five children: Johnny, Jeannie, Bill, Mary Jane, and Becky. On March 11, 1952, she married Willard Wesley Barber, and they had one son together, Steve.
Billie will be remembered by her family as a devoted mother, beloved MawMaw, and caring friend. Billie had a talent for cooking and for making others feel loved and important.
She was a member of Stonegate Community Church. Billie had also been a long time member of Beverly Hills Baptist Church. She was a devoted Christian and faithful church member. Billie and her husband Willard were diehard Baylor fans, travelling near and far to support Baylor football.
Billie was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Willard Wesley (Pooskie) Barber; daughter, Mary Jane Rice; son, Steven Wesley Barber; step-son, Ronald Barber; and daughters-in-law, Reca Barber and Barbara Barber.
Billie leaves behind the legacy of a large and loving family: two sons, Johnny Barber of Waco and Bill Barber of Whitney; two daughters, Jeannie Regan and husband Jim of Garland, and Becky Nichols of Waco; step-son, Jack Barber of West; daughter-in-law, Laura Wright; sister, Bobbie Tole of Waxahachie; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and a multitude of extended family and friends.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons Johnny Ray Barker, Jesse Barker, Josh Barker, Jake Barker, Adam Barber, and Wesley Barber.
