Billy T. Perry, 72, of Woodway, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2006, at St. Catherine's.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at OakCrest Funeral Home with his son-in-law, the Rev. Bruce Mercer officiating.
Burial will follow in Faulkenberry Cemetery near Groesbeck. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at OakCrest.
Billy was born December 19, 1933 in Groesbeck to Tilton and Loretta (Reynolds) Perry.
After graduating from Texas A&M University in 1959 as a civil engineer, he began a 34 year career with the Texas Highway Department.
He worked first in Groesbeck and Hamilton before coming to Waco in 1968 where he served in various administrative capacities for District 9 before retiring in 1993.
He married Nan Sills on September 11, 1957. He loved his family and especially enjoyed celebrating birthdays. His kids and grandkids were his pride and joy.
He liked to work with kids and sports and was influential in the development of the Woodway Little League program, coaching and serving as president of the Little League Board of Directors and volunteering for many years at the State Little League complex in Waco.
He also was an avid camper and fisherman and greatly enjoyed cooking out.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Carl Joe Perry, in 1998.
He is survived by:
his wife of 49 years, Nan, of Woodway;
son, Scott Perry of Destin, Fla.;
daughter, Valerie Mercer and husband, Bruce of Belton;
grandchildren, Danielle Farnham and husband, Jacob, Erika Mercer, Andrea Mercer, and Kristin Mercer, all of Belton, and Connor Perry and Nicole Perry, both of Destin, Fla.;
brother, Jerry Don Perry and wife, Delores of Austin,
and sister-in-law, Linda Naff and husband, Frank of Lukfin.
Pallbearers will be Glen (Nubbin) Beckner, Bob Burns, James Doughtery, Jr., Rod Martin, Frank Naff, Jerry Perry, Lane Perry and Mike Perry.
The family especially thanks Providence Hospice and nurse, Lynnae Gropp, and St. Catherine's Center.
