BILLY DOYLE WARREN
1930 - 2025
Billy Warren passed away on January 10, 2025 in Waco. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 15, at Oakcrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd., Waco, Texas at 1:00 pm with visitation one hour prior at 12 pm. Dr. Randy Hughes, founder of Shepherd’s Rest Ministry and retired pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church along with Marcelo Oliveira, Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, will be officiating.
Billy was born in Waco on July 31, 1930 and raised in Speegleville on the family farm. He met Geraldine Maurer at Wright Skating Rink in downtown Waco. They were married at Emmanuel Baptist Church on April 5, 1952.
Billy served his country in the U. S. Army, stationed at Ft. Carson, Colorado during the Korean War. After his service he and Geraldine moved back to Waco and became active members of Emmanuel Baptist Church serving and raising their two daughters there.
He attended Baylor University courtesy of the GI Bill. He worked for a local gas station pumping gas. Needing to better support his family he then sought employment at Owens-Illinois Glass Plant working there until retiring in 1988 after 30 plus years.
While employed at O & I Billy was a member of the Glass, Pottery, Plastics & Allied Workers Union. In 1969 he served as their representative to the State Convention in Corpus Christi, the National Convention in Washington, D.C., and then at the International Convention in Caracas, Venezuela.
Billy was a Master Mason and belonged to Fidelis Lodge No. 1127 in Waco. He served on the Directors Staff with the Waco Karem Shriners. He was an avid fisherman and later became a lover of the game of golf, volunteering for many years at the Starburst Jr. Golf Classic.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Vera Glaze Warren; his wife, Geraldine Maurer Warren; brothers, Homer Warren and Cecil Warren Jr.; sister, Frances Warren Spitzer, and great grandsons, Jayce Doyle Sherman and Jayden Drew Sherman.
Billy loved his family and will be missed by daughters, Debbie Sherman and husband Eddie, and Karen Garbett and husband Kent. His grandchildren, who called him PaPa: Stacy Sligh and husband Chase, Clint Sherman and wife Taylor, Ryan Garbett and wife Shannon and Chad Garbett and wife Amy; great grandchildren Kyndal Campbell and husband Easton, Lillie Sligh and fiancée Hunter Baccus, Jaycob Jones, Kinsey and Peyton Garbett and Breydon Garbett; great-great grandchildren Eider and Elena Campbell and several much-loved nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the compassionate staff at Greenview Manor for taking great care of Billy especially Tim, Michelle, Janiyah, Dacia, Heather, Tomeka, and Brittany. Special thanks to Cassidy and Suzanne for taking care of our family while we were with our dad during his final days. Thank you also to Derrick, Theresa, Cory, and Alex with Interim Hospice.
