Bland T. Brown

Bland T. Brown was born in Nashville Tennessee on September 26, 1926 and passed away April 21, 2015 in Dallas Texas, at the age of 88. Rosary/Visitation will be6 p.m., Friday, April 24, at Oakcrest Funeral Home in Waco. The funeral mass/service will be 11:30 a.m., Saturday, April 25, at St. Louis Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Soon after his birth, his parents Hal Douglas and Claribel Brown relocated to Waco Texas. During his early years he enjoyed football and baseball and was active in the Boy scouts of America though Troop 326, in which he developed lifelong friends. Bland attended Waco High School and excelled in Varsity Football. Shortly thereafter in 1944 he among many friends enlisted in the United States Navy serving on the USS Idaho till the end of the war 1946.
Upon his Honorable discharge and with a gift and understanding of electronic circuitry, he was hired by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company/AT&T as a lineman and later retired after 35 years as a Senior Manager of Field Maintenance and Development. He later formed ITS technology which sold and serviced business telephone/IT systems throughout the greater Waco area.
He met and fell in love with Mary “Betty” Morgan on a blind date and were married on April 6, 1951. They brought in two beautiful children, Janis and Bland Jr. after several unforeseen miscarriages. Bland was a member of St Louis Catholic Church from its early beginnings out of the Reicher High School cafeteria.
He was very active in the Knights of Columbus and held various officer positions to promote and expand the membership and community involvement in the greater Waco area. Bland’s hobbies included golfing, fishing, woodworking and various handyman projects for his family and friends as we’re all aware.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hal Douglas and Claribel (Mudder); his wife, Betty; his siblings, Hal Jr., Fred, Dorothy, Patsy, Martha. He is survived by his siblings, Barbara and Bill; his children, Janis of Austin and Bland Jr. of Conroe; and his grandchildren, Justin and Emily Brown, of Spring, Texas, the joy of his life
