Butch Jansing

Gerald James “Butch” Jansing, 72, of Waco, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, August 3, 2023. Services will be Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at St. Louis Catholic Church: Visitation with the family will be at 10:00am, with the rosary at 10:30am, and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with Father Miguel Flores as celebrant. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Butch was born April 18, 1951 in San Antonio, Texas to Jerry and Pat Jansing. He graduated from Reicher Catholic High School in 1969. He had a successful career at K-Mart and then joined the family business at Big Red Distributor on La Salle. After Big Red was sold to Dr. Pepper, Butch continued to work for the company for several years before pursuing a career with the McLennan County Sherriff’s Department. He retired in
2016.

Butch was happiest when enjoying a beer in his chair at The Crying Shame and Salty Dog. He made numerous friends at both establishments and considered the staff as family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry; mother, Pat; and brother, David.

He is survived by his siblings, Joanne Jaster and husband, Billy; Kathleen Allison and husband, Randy; Harold Jansing and wife, Raylynn; John Jansing; and Michael Jansing and wife, Shirley. Butch is also survived by his children, Gerald “Trey” Jansing and wife, Natalie, Felicia Cates and husband, Jason; four grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Salty Dog for looking after Butch all these years and for taking care of him that last evening. Thank you to Waco PD, Waco Fire Department Station 8 and the AMR team for their prompt response, professionalism, and kindness. The family also appreciates Sarah, his home health nurse, and Dr. Seth Koster, his primary care physician.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the staff of The Salty Dog.
