Clayton Dugger Sr. , legendary fast-pitch softball player, affectionately known by his family as "Poppa", went to be with our Lord on Sunday, March 2, following a brief but courageous battle. He was 82 years old.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, March 6, at St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church with Msgr. Mark Deering as celebrant.
Burial with military honors will follow at Rosemound Cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, at 6 p.m. at OakCrest Funeral Home by Father Albert Laforet, followed by visitation with the family until 8 p.m.

Clayton was a much respected military service man who served in World War Two as a Private First Class in Company H of the 261st Infantry from 1944-1946, during which time he received the Certificate of Merit for Military Duty from the European Theatre of Operations and was also awarded the Purple Heart in 1946.
Clayton was a proud captain of the Karem Arab Patrol from 1977-1991 and also served as the President of the Texas Shrine Patrol Association from 1982-1983.
Clayton was a decorated fast-pitch softball player who was a part of many teams from 1946-1970. He was inducted into the International Softball Congress Hall of Fame in 1978 and was called upon to play in nineteen consecutive World Tournaments. He and his team won five of these Tournaments and was awarded the Most Valuable Player Award in two of the Tournaments. Clayton was also named Outstanding Pitcher in numerous games with a top fastball speed clocked at 108 miles per hour.
He retired from Hercules after 37 years as a Project Manager.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.
Clayton is survived by the love of his life, his wife Jackie Maxine Dugger; and their three children: Cindy Bobo, Doug Dugger and partner Allison, and Carla Dugger. His living siblings include Lem Dugger, Jesse Dugger and wife, Lucy, Dorothy Whisenhunt, and LaVern Benson and husband, Ben. Clayton also leaves behind his grandchildren whom he greatly treasured: Nikki Dugger and partner Cedric, Trey Woychesin and partner Ashley, Amber Radle and partner Brandon, Jordan Dugger, Taylor Woychesin and partner Candice, and Darrion Knox. He also leaves behind his pride and joy great-grandchildren, Jaylon Lee and Branson Neagle. Clayton also will be greatly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends whom he treated and loved as members of his own family.
Those close to him will always remember his great humor, infectious smile, and deep love and respect he showed everyone he came into contact with.
The family will graciously accept flowers or a donation in Clayton's name to The Shrine Cripple Children's Hospital in Dallas, Texas.
