Candelaria Alonzo Mansolo, also known as Candie, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2023, at the age of 92 in her home in Hewitt, Texas. She was born on February 2, 1931, in Asa, Texas to Rodrigo Alonzo and Margarita Saldana Alonzo. Candie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law, and aunt.
Candie lived in Downsville, Texas when she met her husband Joe at church. After a long-distance relationship, they married on April 30, 1955. They lived in Chicago from 1955 to 1959 before moving back to Central Texas. Candie was a warm and friendly person who never knew a stranger. She loved her family and friends dearly and enjoyed life to the fullest.
Candie worked at JM Woods Manufacturing for over 20 years and at Olan Mills for over 10 years before retiring in 1993. She was an active member of St. Francis on the Brazos Catholic Church, where she was involved in Hijas de Maria, Guadalupana Society, Women's Society, Choir, Eucharistic Minister, and Lector. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and always singing and dancing.
Candie is survived by her husband, of 68 years, Joe Mansolo Jr., her daughters Barbara Garcia, Cathy Quintero and husband Tom, Natalie Erchinger and husband Paul, her son Joseph Mansolo, her grandchildren Kenny Garcia, Kristina Means and husband David, Kyle Garcia, Nick Quintero, Michael Quintero and fiancée Allie Arellano, Andrew Erchinger, Keith Erchinger, Alyssa Erchinger, her great-grandchildren Derek Means and Amelia Means, Mansolo sisters in law, brothers in laws, and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Antonia Montoya, Dolores Alonzo, Natalia Alonzo, Gregoria Guerra, Juanita Garcia, Florentina Guerra, Claudia Reust and her son in law Michael Graham.
Visitation will be held at Oakcrest Funeral Home in Waco, Texas on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at 6:00 pm, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm. A Mass will be held at St. Francis on the Brazos Catholic Church on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 10:00 am.
Contributions can be made to St. Francis on the Brazos Catholic Church or Bluebonnet Health Services, Hospice in memory of Candie.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Garcia, David Means, Nick Quintero, Michael Quintero, Keith Erchinger and Matthew Schlemmer.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Ben Bravo and Marcos Morales.
