Capt. E.G. Albers, retired Texas Ranger and veteran law enforcement officer, died Thursday, June 16, 2011 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center.
Services
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, at Western Heights Baptist Church, 6301 Bosque Blvd., with Mr. Rex Whittaker officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Visitation
Visitation will be 6 - 8 p.m. Monday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. A special video tribute honoring Capt. Albers' distinguished career will be shown continuously during the visitation times.
Biography: A life of service
Capt. Albers was born August 10, 1923 in Lee County near Giddings. He entered military service in 1942. In 1946, he began his law enforcement career with Pampa Police Department. He entered the Department of Public Safety in 1949 as a Highway Patrolman stationed at Amarillo, Houston and Pampa.
Capt. Albers was appointed in 1961 as a Texas Ranger stationed at Canyon, promoted to Sergeant in 1968 at Midland, and promoted in 1969 to Captain of Ranger Company F in Waco.
He attended D.P.S. Law Enforcement Academy and later was instructor for several recruit schools at D.P.S. Academy. He was the first Texas Ranger to graduate from the F.B.I. National Academy (84th Session) and received his BS degree from the University of Central Texas in Criminal Justice.
Memberships
Capt. Albers is a member of Western Heights Baptist Church and past president of Partners Sunday School Class. He served on several committees at Western Heights Baptist Church. He was an ordained Baptist Deacon.
He is a former member of Texas Police Association, Texas Sheriffs' Association,
F.B.I.N.A. Graduate Association and former member of Waco and N.A. Rotary Clubs.
Capt. Albers served 14 years on the Texas Ranger Museum and Fort Fisher Advisory Board both as a member and chairman.
Capt. Albers is a 50 year master Mason.

His parents, Edwin and Emma Albers, brothers Gus and Bill, and sisters Clara and Minnie preceded him in death.
Survivors
He is survived by his wife, Ann Tate Albers; brothers, John of Seguin, Ewald of Athens, Richard of Eustace, and Fred of Fairfield; sister, Ruby Williamson of Channer; children, Edwin Albers and wife, Lana, of Richardson and Catherine Felder of Bastrop; step-children, David Marek and wife Susie, Richard Marek, and Robert Marek, all of Bell County; grandchildren, Chris Albers and wife Mikel, Nathan Albers, Ben Albers, Caitlyn Lopez and husband David, Tessa Lopez, Caleb Marek, Logan Marek, and Ryan Marek; and two great-grandchildren, Charley Lopez and Indy Albers.
Those Honored as Pallbearers
Pallbearers will be active and retired Texas Rangers.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Western Heights Partners Sunday School Class.
