Carmen C. Ortiz, 76, of Waco, passed away Monday, July 28, at her residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m. Friday, August 1, 2008 at St. Louis Catholic Church with Rev. David Leibham officiating. Burial will follow in Waco Memorial Park.

The rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 31, at OakCrest Funeral Home, followed by visitation with the family. A memorial video of her life will be shown during the visitation. The family will be staying at 6716 Wiethorn Drive.

Carmen was born May 23, 1932 in Charlotte, to Melecio and Guadalupe (Alvarado) Cantu. She married Concepcion G. Ortiz on May 2, 1954 in Harlingen. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who always took devoted care of her family. She worked at The Regis and Woodland Springs Nursing Homes for several years. She also volunteered at churches to work with the children. She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers and a sister.
She is survived by her children, Yolanda Tarango and her husband Larry of Cleburne, Rolando Ortiz and his wife, Mavis of Austin, Velma Ortiz and husband Raul of Cleburne, Nelda Aguilar and husband James of Waco, and Melissa Ortiz of Waco; brother, Amador Cantu and wife Norma of College Station; sisters, Olivia Cantu of Mission and Elina Reyes of New Mexico; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be J.R. Aguilar, Albert R. Tarango, Rolando Ortiz Jr., Jonathon I. Ortiz, Robert Richard Ortiz, Joey Cantu, Paul Cantu, and A. Isquierdo.

Honorary pallbearers will be Raul Ortiz Jr., Lance T. Ortiz, Joshua R. Carrillo, Jesse Euresti Jr., and Elias R. Tarango.

The family thanks everyone for their prayers and support during this time.
