Carmon Frances Fountain, age 87 and a 36 year resident of Waco, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2010 at her residence. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, at OakCrest Funeral Home with burial at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service.
Born on April 6, 1922, Carmon was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Stephenson of Liberty, Texas. Carmon graduated from Liberty High School and attended a business college in Beaumont. After attending business college, she returned to worked in the tax office in the Liberty courthouse.
On March 14, 1941, she married W. T. Fountain of Kountze, Texas. Carmon and W. T. Fountain had four children: Hugh Thomas, Janet May, Mark William, and Melba Frances. Carmon was a youth counselor at the United Methodist Church in Belton, Texas, for 18 years; she also worked for many years with the Women's Society of Christian Service. In 1972, Carmon and W. T. moved to Waco and became active members of the Austin Avenue United Methodist Church.
Carmon is survived by her husband, W. T. Fountain; son Mark Fountain of Golden, Colorado; and daughters Janet Kennedy of Glen Rose, Texas, and Melba Kattner and husband, Rick of Camano Island, Washington.
