Carole Elizabeth Cox, 72, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at her home in Gatesville, surrounded by her loving family.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at Seventh & James Baptist Church in Waco, 602 James Avenue, with Rev. Leslie Rosencrans officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 15, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd in Waco.

Carole was born September 14, 1938 in Jonesville, Louisiana, to Mike and Ava Grace (Lay) Beard. She grew up in Houston and attended Rice University.

She was a member of Bellaire Methodist Church where she met and fell in love with Roy Walter Cox. On June 28, 1958, she married Roy Cox in Bellaire. For 25 years she and her husband lived in Houston where they raised their two children, Roy Jr. and Barbara Lynn.

They moved in 1989 to Lebanon, Tennessee, where they lived until 2010. They then returned home to Texas to be back with their loved ones. Carole enjoyed gardening, the beauty of nature, all creatures great and small, cooking, reading, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren.

Carole was devoted to her family as a loving wife of 52 years, mother, and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Carole was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Mike Beard, Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Roy W. Cox, Sr.; son, Roy W. Cox, Jr. and wife Stephanie of Spring; daughter, Barbara Reis and husband, Dr. Michael Reis of Waco; grandchildren, Dr. Scott Reis and wife, Alicia, of New York City, Brian Reis of Houston, Michelle Reis and fiancé, Jameson Mattern of Waco, Mark Cox of Houston, and Virgina Cox of Spring.

The family appreciates all of Carole's wonderful caregivers at Scott & White Hospital and Hillcrest Rehabilitation Center, and especially Dr. Long Le for his devoted care. Additionally, the family expresses its gratitude to Scott & White Hospice and home caregivers I.V., Carolyn, Charlie, and Rita.
