Carolyn Reid

Linda Carolyn Reid, 72, of Waco, passed on April 26, 2021, at Providence
Hospice Place – St. Catherine’s surrounded by her loved ones after a
courageous battle with MDS and Leukemia. Family will receive visitors
Monday, May 3, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Oakcrest Funeral
Home. Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at
Oakcrest Chapel with Pastor Buddy Sipe and Pastor Craig Klempnauer
officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park.

Carolyn was born August 15, 1948 in Waco, Tx to Ben G. Ewing, Jr. and
Dorothy Ragan Ewing. She graduated from Richfield High School in 1966.
After graduation she attended beauty school and worked as a beautician
for many years. She began her career with Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center
in 1981 billing insurance in the Business Office. During her 27 years at
HBMC she worked in the Business Office, Admissions, she also supervised
the opening of a billing service for doctors, and completed her career in the
Business Office. She retired in 2008. Carolyn enjoyed bowling leagues
with her parents and participating in the local/state tournaments. She had
two children and enjoyed sharing her love for bowling and fishing with
them. She was born into Grace Temple Baptist Church and was a member
until her passing.

Carolyn met the love of her life, Gary, in 1989. They married in March of
1994 and created a beautiful, blended family. On the weekends Carolyn
would go with Gary on his Greyhound bus runs so they could share
adventures together. After they both retired, they enjoy spending time with
the family. She loved decorating for Vacation Bible School at Grace
Temple Baptist Church and enjoyed teaching the pre-k group during VBS.
They shared volunteer experiences with the Waco Veterans Hospital
through the Ladies AMVET Auxiliary Local Post 19 and Sons of the AMVETS
Local Post 19 both serving as officers at the local and state levels. She
and Gary worked on Thursday’s delivery, the American Classified Thrifty
Nickel papers, and Senior News. She received a Friend of Texas Award
within the Texas Region of Phi Theta Kappa. Her hobbies included
crocheting blankets for the grandchildren when they were born, making bird
toys for the Cen-Tex Bird Club fundraisers, and crocheting lap blankets for the
homebound patients with Bluebonnet Home Health.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben G. Ewing, Jr. and Dorothy
Dean Ewing; maternal grandparents, Ada and Lark Ragan; paternal
grandparents, Ben and Catherine Ewing, Sr.; and Ethel Ewing Cobb; aunt,
Vera Henegar; and uncles, Charles Ragan and James Bell.

Survivors include her beloved husband, Gary Don Reid; daughter Rene’
Oliver Kemp and husband, Kevin of Waco; son, Brian Martin and wife, Krista of
Hewitt; daughter, Kerri Reid Featherston and husband, Jason of Robinson; and son,
Aaron Reid of Hewitt. She was “Bebow” to 11 grandchildren and 7 great-
grandchildren. The grandchildren are Macy Ledesma and husband, Jose, Grant
Cooper and girlfriend, Kelsie Shelley, Makayla Campbell, Christa Arenas and
husband, Amado, Courtney Nolan and husband, Brian, Brianna and Emma Martin,
Randy Hayes and wife, Kayla; Bre, Isabella, and Faith Featherston. The great-
grandchildren are Noah, Bethany, and Axel Ledesma; Railynn and Orin Nolan;
Rylan Hayes, and Kimberly Shelley; mother-in-law, Mildred Reid; and sister-in-
law, Linda Reid.

Pallbearers are Kevin Kemp, Jason Featherston, Grant Cooper, Randy
Hayes, Jose Ledesma, and Amado Arenas.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Thomas Harris of
Texas Oncology, Community Hospice of Texas, and Providence Hospice
Place for their care.
