Cecil E. Coffee

Cecil Eugene Coffee, 79 of Woodway, passed away on November 29, 2017 surrounded by his loved ones. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, December 4, 2017 at the OakCrest Funeral Home Chapel, 4520 Bosque Boulevard, Waco, with Rev Bill Purdue officiating. A memorial video prepared by OakCrest Funeral Home honoring his life will be shown during the service. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Sunday, December 3 from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home.

Cecil was born June 17, 1938 in Frost, TX to George Newton Coffee, Sr and Sally Ellen Detherage Coffee. He graduated from West High School in 1957. After graduation, he attended Baylor University for a time before enlisting in the United States Army where he traveled to Germany. After his enlistment, he worked for Goodyear Tire for 25 years.

Cecil was known throughout Texas during his high school years as a top quarterback. His love for sports led him to coach little league baseball. Up until recently, he played golf every day and directed numerous golf tournaments during his retirement.

In June of 1993, he married Janie (Avila West) Coffee.

Cecil was an awesome husband, dad, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many. He loved life and he loved his family.

He was preceded in death by three brothers Billy, Edmund Taylor, and George Newton, Jr, one sister, Mary Alice Zeman, and one daughter, Kellie Lee Rye.

Survivors include his wife Janie, his brother Carl (Evelyn), his son-in-law, Doug Rye, his children, Jamie Coffee of Nevada, Steve Coffee of California, Paul Carmon of Texas, and Mary “Cissy” Chastain of Waco, step-daughter Tina Walker, step-sons Bobby West, Guy West, and grandchildren Litza Matthews, Bart Benitez, Nick Chastain, Don Walker, Jr, and Leah Wright, many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He always liked his great nieces and nephews to call him Great Uncle Cecil.
