Charles Cagle
Charles Laurent Cagle, 68, of Waco, passed away Saturday, Nov 25, 2006.
Services will be at 10 am, Saturday, Dec. 2, at the First Presbyterian Church, 11th & Austin, in Waco, with the Rev. David Reed officiating. A nursery will be provided.
Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 1, from 5 pm to 8 pm at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. in Waco.
Graveside services with military honors will be at the Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio on Monday, Dec. 4, at 1:30 p.m.
Mr. Cagle was born in El Paso, Texas, to Ernest Erin Cagle and Louise Pomeroy Billard Cagle. He married Nancy Lynne Burnett September 30, 1961. He graduated from UT El Paso in August, 1961, and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the US Army. Charles served the Army for 10 years, being awarded the Bronze Star and Vietnam service medal before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserves.
He retired from the Veterans Administration Regional Office after 31 years of service, the last 10 of which were as the VARO representative at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, the VFW, Heart of Texas Neighborhood Assn president, Brookview Neighborhood Assn, Citizens on Patrol, Citizens' Police Academy Alumni Assn vice-president, American Heart Assn Board, former TaleTwister Toastmasters member, was a Food for Families volunteer, and Friends of the Waco McLennan Library volunteer. Charles and Nancy were Volunteers of the Year for Waco Habitat for Humanity, and Charles was awarded Volunteer of the Year for the Waco-McLennan County Library.
He was a CPR/First Aid Instructor for countless Scout troops, day-care centers, and dentists' offices. and the Baylor ushers this fall. He was also a member of the local Community Emergency Response Team. He was a soccer coach, Cub leader, and Scout leader when his son was young. Charles was an Eagle Scout and Vigil Honor--Order of the Arrow. He was also a 20-gallon blood donor.
Charles is survived by his wife Nancy of Waco; daughter Elaine Lynch and husband, Wayne, of Sugar Land, TX; son Robert Cagle of Waco; grandchildren Amanda Wilkins, Aaron Wilkins and Briana Lynch and cousins in Texas and California.
By long-term mutual agreement between Charles and Nancy, he has given the Gift of Life to several others through the Texas Organ Sharing Alliance.
Memorials may be given to the Boy Scouts, American Heart Assn, Friends of the Library, Habitat for Humanity, or Central Presbyterian Church.
