Charles Cotharn

Charles Edward Cotharn, 72, left this world to enter his heavenly rest Wednesday, July 1, 2009 after a lengthy illness. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Speegleville Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Bailey officiating. Private burial with military honors will be at a later date at Rosemound Cemetery.

Charlie was born August 26, 1936 in Marquez to Aubrey and Agnes Cotharn. He moved to Waco in 1956 where he met the love of his life, Mary Harcrow. They were married in 1958.

Charles and Mary moved to California in 1961, settling in Upland. Charles worked for Sears for 30 years and retired in 1991. He coached Pop Warner Football for 20 years, leading several teams to championships. Although, he was always competitive he believed in letting all the kids play. They returned to Waco in 2000.

Charles is preceded in death by his son Charles Edward Cotharn II and his parents.

Charles is survived by his loving wife, Mary; two sons, David Cotharn of Fruita, Col. and Mark Cotharn and wife, Terri of Cory, Col.; two brothers, Donald Cotharn of Long Beach, California and Weylin Cotharn and wife, Wonna of Lorena; one sister, Anita Lowery of Lake Havasau, Ariz.; five grandchildren, James Charles Cotharn, Boyce James Stovall, Andrea Elaine Cotharn, Sarah Ann Cotharn, and 3rd degree Cadet Emily Kay Cotharn (Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs; and a great grandson, Boyce James Stovall, Jr. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to thank Sherry, Tammy and Janie of Scott & White Hospice for their loving care during his illness.
