Charles I. (Charlie) Forrest of Waco passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center. Funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Oakcrest Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5 - 7 p.m. Thursday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Charlie was born October 25, 1930 to Louise Hopkins Forrest and Loyce “Shop” Forrest in Temple, Texas. He lost his mother on Sept. 4, 1944 and lost his Father on Jan. 4, 1945. After his parent’s deaths, when he was only 13, he was raised by his grandmother and his Aunt Mamie Curtis and Uncle Ted Forrest.
Charlie graduated from Temple High School in 1948 where he was active in clubs and sports. He joined the Navy, serving 2 years and later worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone and Continental Airline. Charlie married Ann Baggett in Temple in 1951 and had 2 daughters. He went to work for Texas Farm Bureau in 1953 as one of only four claims adjusters for the state; his territory was south Texas. After holding claims manager positions in Lubbock and Waco, he became the First Executive Vice President of Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Companies in the Waco headquarters. Charlie retired after 30 years.
Charlie married Ann Zimmerman Anderson in December 1987. They owned and operated AT HOME VIDEO in Hewitt for 10 years. After retiring from Farm Bureau, he worked with Clifton Robinson and Jim Hawkins and then began building custom homes in Woodway, Hewitt, Belton, and Salado. He was selected to build the Association of Realtors Office Building in Temple.

To his business colleagues, partners, family and friends, Charlie was capable of achieving almost anything he set his mind to do. He was giving and generous to many during his life. He enjoyed golf and tennis. A great animal lover, he cherished 2 wonderful dogs, Hank and Bailey, fro m Fuzzy Friends Rescue. Throughout his life, he rescued dogs & cats and gave them a new beginning. He also helped with Meals on Wheels with his best friend of 55 years, Sherm Winniford. He was a faithful member of the Saturday Night Worship of 1st United Methodist Church.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Ann Anderson Forrest of Waco, Children: Barbara Forrest Holladay and husband, Mark of Temple; Sharla Wiese and husband, Mark of Salado; Chris Anderson and wife Crystal of Waco; and Jonathan Anderson and wife Audrey of Novi, Michigan. Charlie is also survived by 8 Grandchildren, 4 Great-grandchildren and his beloved dogs, Hank and Bailey Forrest.
