Surrounded by his family, Charles Keith McClure reunited with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at Providence Health Center.
Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 16, 2009 at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Curtis Holland and Dr. Jim Brown officiating. Visitation with the family will be 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, February 15, 2009 at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Charles was born June 27, 1916 in Cleburne, Texas to Irene Ellen Pate and Andrew McClure. He graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas. He earned an Associate's Degree in Biochemistry from Henderson County Junior College and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology from Baylor University in 1956. Charles began selling newspapers at the age of 9 to support himself and his siblings. He lived for a time at the YMCA in Dallas and in many foster homes. He later worked for Acme Freight, the Dallas Times Herald as a reporter, owned a café in Van Horn, Texas and drug store in Brownsboro, Texas, and sold insurance for Great Southern Life. He then worked for Schering Plough Corporation for 25 years. Charles also served in the United States Navy on the Pacific Front on a hospital ship and in New Zealand from 1942 until 1945.
Charles was baptized at Gaston Avenue Baptist Church in Dallas and was a member of Western Heights Baptist Church in Waco. He was also a member of the Masons, the Texas Drug Travelers, Toastmasters, and the Scottish Rite Shriners.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Louise Boles McClure; two daughters, Suzan McClure Brown and husband Jim of Ashland City, Tennessee, and Sarah McClure Brem and husband Bobby of Waco; three grand-daughters, Rebecca Durrett and husband Darren of Dallas, Jessica Reynolds and husband Josh of Waco, and Nicole Gallegos and husband, Enrique of Bruceville; and five great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Brem, Josh Reynolds, Enrique Gallegos, Darren Durrett and Albert Hampel.
Memorials may be given to Compassion Ministries or Western Heights Baptist Church.
