Charles Stakely McWhorter Sr, 72, of Waco passed away peacefully at home on November 26, 2014.Graveside services will be 1:00 PM December 3, 2014, at Oakwood Cemetery, with Monsignor Mark Deering officiating.

Charles was born May 28, 1942, in Atlanta, GA, to James Vason and Constance Anne Schuler McWhorter. The family moved to Waco when he was a young boy. He attended Sanger Avenue Elementary School, West Junior High School, and graduated from Waco High School in 1960. He earned his BBA in accounting and finance from Baylor University in 1964 where he served as president of Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity and was elected to Hankamer Business School Council. He worked for many years at Citizens National Bank as a commercial loan officer and mortgage loan specialist. After leaving the banking business, Charles pursued various business ventures, serving as vice-president of Quality Building Maintenance, Natural Oxygen Products, Consolidated Loan Service, Inc., and Guardeen, Inc.

Charles enjoyed dancing, listening to music, supporting the Baylor Bears, solving crossword puzzles, gardening and tending to his orchids, reading, traveling, junking/antiquing, and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay Merritt McWhorter.

Charles is survived by his daughter, Lisa McWhorter Cain; sons, Charles McWhorter Jr. and Patrick McWhorter; sister, Megan Mosby; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Zonna McWhorter; brother-in-law, Gary Merritt; grandsons, Charles McWhorter III and wife Daughter, Daniel Jones, and Aaron Cain; great-grandchildren, Angel, Grace, Charles IV, and Faith; nieces Stephanie McWhorter Montgomery and Allison McWhorter Martinez and husband Gibert; nephew, Josh McWhorter; great-nieces and nephews Lindsey Montgomery, Clint Montgomery, Will Martinez and Kadette Martinez; longtime, dear friend, Abby Sobel; and other extended family members.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or charity of your choice.
