Charles Franklin Patterson entered the Promised Land on September 29, 2016 after a superhero’s battle with cancer. He was born February 14, 1943 to Marranda (Crawford) Patterson and Charles Thomas Patterson in Palestine, Texas. He graduated from Texas A&M on academic scholarship in 1965 and moved to Houston to begin his career in petroleum internal auditing and become a family man. He semi-retired to work security in the Huntsville Prison, where he offered spiritual guidance to inmates. He then took early retirement traveling to many majestic U.S. National Parks.
He was a generous man with his time and his spirit and he loved the Lord with all his heart. He would help anyone at any time. He never knew a stranger and enjoyed meeting new people and hearing their histories. He will be forever remembered for his fantastical storytelling. His outrageous comical tales would have him laughing until tears spilled from his beautiful green eyes. He was a wonderful father (his kids affirm that) and a fairly flawed husband (he would tell you that himself.)
He is survived by his companion Shirley Peffer and brother Gene Patterson: His six children Denise Jones, Debra Nelson, Dawn Phillips, Anthony June, Charles Thomas Patterson and Stefanie Patterson: Four grandchildren Marranda Anderson, Katrina Desserich, Erika Desserich, and Deva Nelson: Two great-grandchildren Colton Anderson and Charlotte Cervenak.
The family wholeheartedly thanks the loving professional healthcare staffs at both Quality Care of Waco and Providence Hospice Place in St. Catherine’s.
A fond farewell will take place at OakCrest Funeral Home 4520 Bosque Blvd – Waco, TX on October 15th at 5:00 pm with Rev. Roger Huff officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation in Charles Patterson’s name to the MD Anderson Cancer Center or any charity of choice.
