Charles Roger Powell passed away Friday, February 26, 2010 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco, Texas, after succumbing to complications with lung cancer.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, March 1, 2010 at Central United Methodist Church, 5740 N. State Highway 6 (on Bagby Ave.).
Roger was born Feb. 13, 1952 in Austin, Texas to Charles Avon and Bobbie Jean Powell. At the age of 12 his family moved to Waco, where he graduated from the original Waco High School in 1970, and attended what was then T.S.T.I. in Waco, to obtain an Associates Degree in Commercial Art.
After meeting the 1st love of his life, Dianne Stitz, the couple married July 19, 1974 in Waco. Dianne also obtained an Associates Degree from T.S.T.I., and they moved to California, both being employed with Hughes Aircraft Corporation. To them were born a son and a daughter.
Following the death of his mother 1987, Roger returned to Waco and obtained a 2nd Associates Degree at what had then become T.S.T.C. During this time, he also worked part-time at Premier Motors used car lot in the Waco suburb of Beverly Hills, Texas.
Roger met the 2nd love of his life, Cindy Zeh, in 1996. The couple adopted sobriety together in 1998, and were married on July 17, 1999 at Cornerstone Baptist Church in the Waco suburb of Robinson, Texas. In 2006, Roger began daily commutes to Austin working at Coreslab Structures, Inc., where he was employed until his untimely death.
Roger is survived by his wife, Cindy; son Charles Randall Powell; daughter Lindsay Powell Sorce; Step-son Kiel Zeh; step-daughter Kelly Zeh; brother William Robert Knoph; grandchildren Lana, Lyla, and Livia; step-grandson Elijah; and nephews Blake and Steven.
