Into the waiting arms of his Lord and Savior Charles R. "Tommy" Thompson was welcomed Thursday morning, November 8, 2012. Visitation will be 2 – 4 p.m. Saturday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard. Interment will be later at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
Mr. Thompson was born December 28, 1928 to Alice Edwina Palmer Thompson and Arthur
Thompson Sr. in Ft. Worth. Raised in Fort Worth and Corpus Christi with his six siblings, Charles enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp in 1947 at the age of 19 and spent the next 21 years serving his country, retiring after a distinguished career as a Master Sergeant. Charles married the love of his life Evelyn Lucille Bartlett on November 6, 1950 and from this union came one son, Michael. After retiring from the Air Force, Mr. Thompson spent the next ten years in the life insurance business and retired as Secretary Treasure for Teton National Life Insurance Company in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Tommy was an avid hunter, fisherman and excellent golfer. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. He worked tirelessly in teaching and counseling and was a Deacon and an Elder in the Cheyenne church.
Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister, and daughter-in-law Ila, and by his loving wife, Evelyn in August of 2002.
He is survived by his sister, Ruth Hickey of Sweeny Texas; son, Michael Edwin Thompson; his sons, Richard James and wife Jennifer, Timothy Michael Thompson; great granddaughter Jordan, and scores of loving nieces and nephews.
