Charles "Fred" Williams

Charles "Fred" Williams, age 84, of Woodway, passed away Friday, February 5, 2010 at Providence Health Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, February 8, 2010 at Crestview Church of Christ with Kevin Williams and Dr. Jim Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, February 7, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Fred was born October 8, 1925 in Waco to Charles Flavias Williams and Arrant Tant Williams. Fred married Clara Conaway July 10, 1948 in Lacy-Lakeview. He served in the US Army during WWII. Fred worked for the US Postal Service for 35 years before retiring in 1982. He worked 24 years at Hillcrest Hospital in the mail room until last year when he retired as the oldest employee at the hospital. Fred preached at Churches of Christ in Abbott, Hubbard and then for 20 years at Elm Mott. He was an elder at Crestview Church of Christ for 21 years. He was known as a gentle shepherd among people and was a key leader in Waco area Churches of Christ for the past 60 years.
Fred is survived by his wife, Clara; son, Larry Williams and wife, Cyndy of Edwardsburg, Michigan; daughter, Karen Nolen and husband, Mike of Hewitt; brother, Robert "Tex" Williams and wife, Mary Jane of Cedar Park; six grandchildren, Chris Nolen, Kevin Williams and wife, Jill, Kyle Williams, Jeff Nolen, Melissa Nolen and Cody Williams; and several nieces and nephews.
