Charlotte Demmer Smith, 80, of Marshall, Texas, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at her daughter’s home in Waco. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marshall with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery in Marshall.
There will be a visitation and rosary from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Sullivan Funeral Home in Marshall.
There will also be a visitation with her family from 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at the OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard, Waco.
Charlotte was born August 18, 1933 in Waco to Charles John and Emma Demmer. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1951, Baylor University in 1955, and Louisiana State University in 1962 with a Master’s degree.
She taught at Bellaire High School in Houston where she founded the Bellaire Belles drum & bell corps, and for many years at Marshall High School, where she was program coordinator for the special education department, and coached the tennis team. She also spent many years teaching cheerleading clinics across the southern United States with the National Cheerleaders Association.
Her interests included tennis and spending time with her family. She lived in Marshall most of her life until she moved to Waco in 2013 to be near her daughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Guy W. Smith, Jr.; sister, Lucy Woeber; and grandson, Jordan Michael Slough.
Her survivors include her daughters, Emily Smith McKenzie of Waco and Lucinda Smith of Fort Worth; a son, Michael Charles Smith of Marshall and his wife, Jamie Noland Smith; grandchildren, Zachary Phillip Slough, Sarah Alexander Slough, Cody McKenzie, Emma Cathryn McKenzie, Christopher McKenzie, Grayson James Smith, Collin Demmer Smith, Parker Noland Smith; a special cousin who was like a sister to her, Linda Gough of Waco and her husband, Joe Gough; nieces and nephews, Jim Woeber, Jr., Ann Nix, Cathryn Woeber Kolker, Lynn Woeber Muras, Laura Woeber Linderman, Brad Watson, and Ron Watson; and numerous other cousins and great-nieces and nephews
