Cherylane Patrica Carter of Hewitt, Texas passed away on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2023. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m., Friday, December 1, 2023, at St. Jerome Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, at OakCrest Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7 p.m.

She was born in Austin, Texas to Inez and Felton Squyres. Cherylane was a loving, strong and gentle woman. She was fiercely loved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend to many people

Cherylane was predeceased by her son, Travis Carter; her parents, Inez and Felton Squyres; her beloved sister, Ruth Smith; and sisters-in-law, Debbie Schmidt and Jeri Lutt.

Cherylane leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband of 54 years, Thomas W. Carter; son, Ricky L. Carter and wife, Tricia; sisters, Jody Holder, Sarah Dutson, and Nell Welch; many nieces and nephews; and many friends, especially her St. Jerome community.

Special thanks to many friends for all their prayers and support along with their devotion and help during her long illness, and the doctors and nurses at Ascension Providence Hospital and Texas Oncology.

Thanksgiving was her big day every year because Cherylane was a natural at cooking. She was there for those who needed a shoulder. She never sugar coated anything, and her advice was always straight and to the point. You could always count on that.

Cherylane was a faithful Christian in her Catholic faith. She was a great friend to all who knew her. She loved her family and enjoyed when everybody could be together. She loved to dance.
