Chris Edward Weatherly, 64, a loving husband, committed father, dear friend, and “Wild Man”, went to be with The Lord on Friday, September 5, 2014, in Fort Worth.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Antioch Community Church in Waco. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco immediately following the service. The visitation will be held at Oakcrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard, in Waco on Monday, Sept. 8, from 5-7 pm.
Chris was born July 8, 1950, in Dallas, to Lee and Peggy Weatherly. He grew up in Midland, and was a graduate of Midland Lee High School, where he excelled as an All-State diver on the swim team. Chris served in the Armed Forces in Berlin from 1972-1974. He married Becky Kennedy in 1977, and this November, they would have celebrated their 37th anniversary.
Chris was an unabashedly passionate lover of people. Chris truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures. His passions were Jesus, who was the first love of his life, spending time with his large family and their friends, and his many, many close friends and “adopted” sons and daughters.
Chris loved reading World War II books, riding his bicycle, playing golf with his boys, sparrows (that reminded him of God’s care for him), antique sports cars, and faithfully attending all six children’s many, many sports activities, where they all heard his booming encouragements from the stands.
Chris had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way and his primary ministries were to disciple men, volunteering at Mercy House, a home for recovering addicts in Waco and Living Hope Ministries in Arlington. He served as a life group and section leader at Antioch Community Church and Christ Fellowship. When his wife brought home countless people who needed a mom and dad figure or just a place to live for a while, he never turned down her requests, and he selflessly invested in their lives.
Chris is survived by his beloved wife, Becky Kennedy Weatherly and their six children, Austin and Sarah Weatherly and their children, Ava Grace, Liam McKay, and Jonah Eiben, of Victoria, Texas, Kaleigh Weatherly of Austin, Noah and Natalie Weatherly and their children, Clara Marie and Lilly Ruth, of Burleson, Jacob and Whitney Weatherly of Waco, and Chris Weatherly and Timmy Weatherly, of Dallas.
He is also survived by his loving brother, Lee Weatherly, of Richardson, and his nephews, Brad and Lana Weatherly, of Prosper, Texas, and Chris Weatherly, of Dallas, along with many nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, and cousins.
Memorials may be made to Christ Fellowship Church in Fort Worth or Mercy House in Waco.
