Chris Winkler, 78, retired Fire Marshal for the City of Waco, passed away suddenly Monday night, August 25, 2003, at his home.
SERVICES
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Thursday, August 28, 2003, at St. Louis Catholic Church with Father Melvin Dornak as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Martin's Cemetery in Tours. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque. Visitation with the family will follow.
Born September 5, 1924, in Tours, he was the son of Sebastian and Janie (Kasberg) Winkler. He was married on September 2, 1946, in Waco to Lena Michalewicz.
Chris proudly served on the City of Waco Fire Department for 43 years until his retirement in 1990. His last 15 years of service was as the City of Waco Fire Marshall.
He served in the Army during WWII, and was a past commander of VFW Post 428.
Chris was an avid Domino player and he really enjoyed to fish. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dan Winkler; and sisters, Lillie Dulak and Tracie Muras.
SURVIVORS
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lena Winkler of Waco; two daughters, Sandra Oxner and her husband Jerry of El Paso, and Sharon Winkler of Dallas; grandson, Gary Oxner of El Paso; sisters, Elnora Dulak of Waco, and Christine Fryer and her husband Roland of Waco; sister-in-law, Doris Winkler of Waco; and numerous nieces and nephews.
PALLBEARERS
Pallbearers will be John Winkler, Mark Winkler, Ernest Ray Dulak, Paul Muras, David Michalewicz, Tony Hoelscher, Patrick Michaleqicz, and James Caldwell.
HONORARY PALLBEARERS
Officers and members of the Waco Fire Department will serve as honorary pallbearers.
