Clarissa Allen McDaniel quietly left this world to be with her Lord in heaven on Friday, September 10, 2004 at the Wesley Woods Care Center in Waco.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Spring Hill Funeral Home, 5110 Gallatin Road, Nashville, Tennessee with Dr. Lynn Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery. OakCrest Funeral Home handled local arrangements.
Clarissa was born on January 15, 1914 in Putnam County, Tennessee to Malburn and Vada Pippin Allen. She grew up in Putman County and graduated from Algood High School. In 1935 Clarissa married Walter Howard McDaniel, Sr., who was her devoted husband until his death in 1968.
Soon after their marriage they moved to Middle Tennessee where they lived in Old Hickory and Nashville until she moved to Waco in 2001.
In Waco she joined the Woodway United Methodist Church and was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. Clarissa's life was totally dedicated to her family, her church and her friends. She stayed at home to take care of her family until Howard's death in 1968. She then began working at Sears and remained there until her retirement.
As a long time member of Dalewood United Methodist Church, in Nashville, she will be remembered as a person who truly loved everyone. She was active in the United Methodist Women's group, the Robinette Sunday School Class and the Primetimers. She was also a member of the local Home Demonstration Club. Every week for many years she visited residents in McKendree Manor Nursing Home, always taking cookies, brownies or cakes.
In 1988, she received special recognition from Tennessee Governor, Ned Ray McWherter, for her outstanding service of volunteer work.
Clarissa will be remembered, by those fortunate enough to have known her, as the lady who shared her baked goods and always had a smile and a hug for everyone.
Clarissa was preceded in death by her beloved husband Howard, her parents, sisters Lou McCormick and Vallie Newman and brother Harlon Allen.
Survivors include son Walter McDaniel, Jr. and wife Hannah of Knoxville, Tennessee; daughter, Lynda Conner and husband Norman of Waco; grandsons Jeff Conner and wife Sherry and great-granddaughter Marina of Rowlett and Steve Conner and great-granddaughter Reagan of Galveston; special sister-in-law Margaret Nan Moore Allen of Morristown, Tennessee; special cousin Tony Bruce and husband Landy of Cookeville, Tennessee; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.
