Cleman E. Sweeney, 87, of Waco passed away Sunday, February 17, 2008. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at the family home, 901 N. 59th Street, Waco with Rev. Brent Boatright officiating.

Cleman was born December 18, 1920 in Boulanger, OK to James E. and Mabel (Loftin) Sweeney. He served in the Army on the Aleutian Islands from 1941-43 during WWII. Cleman married Dorothy Hart in 1945. They resided in Independence, KS where he worked for Page Milk Co.

He married Aladeen Moore on September 4, 1948. They resided in Independence until 1965 when they moved to Montebello, CA where they managed an apartment complex. He also drove a bread truck. They were married for 54 years before she died on Feb17, 2000.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Hazel Gordon of Hutchison, Ks., and a grandson, Billy Lucas.

He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Ashley and husband, Johnny of Waco; brother, James Sweeney of Sallisaw, OK; grandchildren, Johnny Alan Ashley and wife Lisa of Emory, John Ashley Jr. and wife Teresa of Academy and their daughters Shelby Ashley and Stephanie Leeper and her husband, Dustin of Evanston, WY, Ben Lucas and wife, Shari of Weatherford, and their sons Cole and Clay Lucas, Jim Lucas and wife Lisa of Midland and children Ashley Paige, Ashley Renee, Britney, and Caitlin, Heather of Virginia Beach, Va., Amanda and Nicholas of Waco, Lacie Lucas of Waco, Lynzi Lucas of Alvarado, Christian and Isabella Lucas of Waco; great-grandson, Colton Leeper of Evanston, Wy.; many friends in California, and a special friend, Darlene House of Waco.

The family express special thanks to Vista Care Hospice for their care and support.

Cleman will be dearly missed by all those who loved him. You are forever in our hearts.
