Consuelo "Connie" Mercado

Consuelo “Connie” Mercado, 59, of Waco passed away on February 10, 2025.

Rosary will be 10am on Wednesday, March 12 at St. Jerome Catholic Church with Deacon Greg George officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am, Wednesday March 12 at St. Jerome Catholic Church with Rev. James Ekeocha of St. Jerome officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Columbarium at St. Jerome Catholic Church. Arrangements are being made by OakCrest Funeral Home. 

Connie was born at Fort Hood Army Hospital in Killeen, Texas to Lt.Col. Juan and Carol Mercado on June 1, 1965.

She went to Ellison High School in Killeen, Texas. She obtained her GED with the help of MHMR (Heart of Texas Behavioral Health Network) through Waco ISD. Connie overcame the numerous difficulties associated with a diagnosis of childhood schizophrenia through her abilities, professional support team, family, friends, and pharmaceutical advances. 

Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Carol Mercado; grandparents, Mayo and Rafael, and Aida and Cesar; godparents, Sarah and Festus; uncles, Fabio, Pascual, and Pepe; aunts, Minin, Miriam, Olga, and Ada; and cousin, Juan Antonio.

Connie is survived by her sisters, Esther and Viola Mercado; aunt and uncle, Amneris and Angelo Drago; cousins, Zulma, Fabio, Adabelle, Jerry, Deandra and Bruno Oliveira and their children, and Jason and Dawn Drago and their children.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to MHMR caseworkers, staff, psychiatrists, and doctors who guided and supported Connie throughout her life’s journey. We would also like to thank the Waco Police Dept, EMT Services, Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital, OakCrest Funeral Home, and St. Jerome Catholic Church for their care, support, and prayers.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus- St. Jerome chapter, and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
