Cynthia Cowan Queen
December 28, 1954 - July 7, 2024
Cynthia ‘Cindy’ Queen, 69, died peacefully early July 7th 2024. A Service will be held at Holy Spirit Episcopal church in Waco, Texas Sunday July 14th at 2pm. Light refreshments will be served following the service.
Cindy was born December 28th, 1954 in Waco, Texas to John William Cowan and Treyonne Russell Cowan. From an early age she loved books, and used to ‘teach class’ to the neighborhood kids (sometimes including, against her sister’s will, her sister Kathy). She also loved music. She played the piano, but her passion was singing. As a senior she was selected to the Texas All-State Choir. She graduated from Waco High School and went on to Baylor University to study English and Music. Cindy’s passion for teaching never wavered, and while at Stephen F. Austin University she graduated with a degree in English and became a teacher.
Cindy spent the bulk of her teaching career at Bosqueville ISD teaching AP English and Literature.
A short marriage produced the most important thing in Cindy’s life; her son. She worked tirelessly so Geoffrey could have piano lessons, baseball gloves, and anything else she thought would help him succeed.
She was a member of Holy Spirit Episcopal Church and loved singing in the choir there.
Cindy was preceded in death by her father, John William Cowan, and her mother, Treyonne Joy Russell Cowan.
She is survived by her sister, Kathy Cowan; son, Geoffrey Queen; and his wife Jennifer Bentley Queen.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Waco Public Library and Holy Spirit Episcopal Church Waco.
