February 17, 1952 – April 23, 2014

Daniel Patrick O’Connor Greene, 62, born at Ft. Belvoir in Washington, D.C. passed away in Waco, Texas on 23 April 2014. There will be an open memorial service for Daniel on Wednesday, April 30 at 4 pm in Miller Chapel on the Baylor University campus, with Dr. Rosalie Beck officiating.

Daniel attended Notre Dame International High School in Rome, Italy, received a B.A. from Georgetown University in English, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in History from the University of Texas at Austin. During his long teaching career, Daniel held positions at Williams College in Williamstown, M.A., Tidewater Community College in Norfolk, VA; McLennan Community College in Waco, and at Baylor University. In 1987 he married a fellow University of Texas graduate, Joan E. Supplee and they built their life together around their mutual love for history, stray animals, travelling in Latin America, and hiking and camping in the high country. Daniel spent the last weekend of his life working and enjoying the land he loved in San Jeronimo, N.M.

Daniel is survived by his wife Joan; his brother Jim and family from Alexandria, VA; his sister Mary Greene Cramer and family from Brattleboro, VT; sister Rebecca Greene Kunz and family from Carmel, IN, and many colleagues, friends, and students across the country.

The family would like to express its appreciation to the staff of the ER and ICU at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center for their caring attention to Daniel.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Daniel’s name to one of the following: the Department of History at Baylor University, the Nature Conservancy, Fuzzy Friends Rescue or a charity of your choice.
