Darlene Louise Engelke, 86, of Waco, left this earth to be with our Lord Jesus Christ Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010.
Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, at St. Louis Catholic Church with Msgr. Mark Deering officiating. Interment will be later at St. Mary's Cemetery in West. Rosary will be recited 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, officiated with Deacon Greg George with visitation to follow 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Darlene was born June 14, 1924, in LaCrosse, Wis., to Pauline Bantle. She married Bennie C. Engelke Sept. 2, 1943. She was a parishioner of St. Louis Catholic Church, a 51 year member of SPJST Lodge 66, and Daughters of Charity. Darlene worked for 21 years at Reicher High School in the cafeteria. She also volunteered her time at Caritas, Providence Hospital, and St. Catherine as a pastoral care director for 28 years.
Darlene was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bennie C. Engelke; a daughter, Sharon Ann Engelke Herring; and her son-in-law, Bruce Herring.
She is survived by a sister, SR Joyce Bantle of LaCrosse, Wis.; a son, John Joseph Engelke and wife, Diana, of Waco; a grandson, Justin Engelke and wife, Misha; and a granddaughter, Lara Herring Gillispie; three great-grandchildren, Mira Engelke, Kyle Marek, and Rena Herring Gillispie; and many family members and friends.
The family thanks all of the doctors and nurses that helped Darlene during her stay on the 4th floor at Providence Hospital and 2nd floor of St. Catherine's Center. These caregivers were so amazing to take a moment to show their faith and prayers with Darlene.
Memorials may be made to Caritas or Providence Hospice in memory of Darlene.
