Darrell Atwood, 77, of Waco, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loved ones after a long courageous battle with cancer. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, at Antioch Community Church, 505 N. 20th Street, Waco, with Rev. Jimmy Seibert officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard.
Darrell was born January 23, 1935 in Springfield, Missouri. He moved to Temple, Texas when he was 12 and attended Temple High School. After graduation from High School, he attended Southwestern Assemblies of God College in Waxahachie, Texas.
On December 20, 1953, he married Margie Day of Gatesville, Texas. They lived in Waco most of their married life. He retired from First National Bank in 1996. Darrell was a founding member of Antioch Community Church, served as an Elder and a member of the Overseeing Board. He also served as a Board member of Thorncrown Chapel located in Eureka Springs, Arkansas for over 25 years. Darrell and his wife Margie traveled together as a Pastoral Care team to missionaries serving in the field.
Survivors include his wife Margie; their daughter Diana Atwood Whiteley of Waco; two granddaughters, Marianna and Jennifer Whiteley, both of Waco; a grandson, Michael Whiteley of Waco; and two nephews, Mark Cadwalder of Houston, and Ronny Yelverton of San Antonio. He was also well loved by many spiritual children and wonderful friends.
