David Alda Crook, 48, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2006, at his residence after a heart attack.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque, with Dr. Wilbur Swartz officiating. A memorial video honoring his life will be shown during the service.
David was born December 19, 1957 in Waco to J.P. Alton Crook and Gladwyn Urban. He graduated from Waco High School in 1977.
He began working at Kim's Drive In at age 14, and worked faithfully there for 34 years. He first worked at the original location at 18th and Summer, and was currently the Assistant Night Manager of the current location on Waco Drive.
During these many years, David developed a loyal following of devoted friends and customers.
For many of these customers, David served several generations of the same family. He often knew exactly what they wanted before they ordered, and took care of each customer with personal, friendly service. Several customers formed their own groups which met regularly at Kim's, including the Friday Night Supper Club which ate there for over 28 years. David knew their birthdays, and provided ice cream and joined in singing Happy Birthday. They would also celebrate David's birthday and provide him with his own cake.
Several customers who lived alone would come to Kim's every night and the highlight of their day was visiting with David.
The Stanley family which operates Kim's felt that David was their "son" and treasured his many years of loyalty.
David was a beloved member of his family, and his smile and positive attitude will be greatly missed. He leaves two sisters, Jackie Huff Beard of Golinda and Bettye Carr McMullen of Houston; three brothers, Thomas White of Houston, Paul Crook of Houston, and Dana Crook of Fort Worth; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful friends, Mrs. Gene Stanley, owner of Kim's, Jenny Marquez, Martin Gonzalez, and Cathy Potter.
Memorials on David's behalf can be sent to OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque, Waco 76710.

ODE TO DAVID CROOK
David how we'll miss you.
You were always there for us.
Every Friday night we came-
You never made a fuss.
For nearly 20 years we ordered.
You remembered all our "usual" requests.
And now Dear Friend as we say farewell;
We ask God to bless you as our final bequests.
By Sandi Swartz of the Friday Night Dinner Group.
