Derek J. Bryant, 49, of Los Angeles and formerly of Waco, passed away November 18, 2009 in Detroit. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday, November 30 at Kimmonsville Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Derek was born February 16, 1960 in Los Angeles. He moved to Detroit from his home in Los Angeles in 1986 and remained there until he decided to make Texas his home. Derek moved to Dallas in 1996 and relocated to Waco a year later. He worked in Waco as a sales representative and also as a bus driver for Durham Transportation. He became a member of Carver Park Baptist Church in Waco and never forgot his church of his Pastor in spite of enduring years of dealing with kidney failure. He returned to Detroit in 2007 and was residing there when he died. Derek loved sports, especially hockey, people, music and the Lord.
He is survived by 5 siblings, Lavertte Taylor of Las Vegas, Eugene Bryant, Wilson G. Bryant, Sophia Ito and Latisha Albright all of Los Angeles. He is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends.
