Deward Cagle

Deward Worth Cagle, 96, of Lorena, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at a local care center.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at Seventh & James Baptist Church with Dr. David Pennington officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday, May 15, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.

Deward was born September 8, 1912 in Moody to Alonzo and Alpharetta (Dixon) Cagle. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. His first wife, Rubynette, passed away in 1997. He married his second wife, Jane, in 2001.

Deward was a Postal Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after 28 years of faithful service. After retirement he worked at the Baylor University Bookstore on occasion and at Baylor Stadium during football games.

He was a member of the Baylor Senior Adult Choir and served as a Deacon at Seventh & James Baptist Church for many years. For 20 years Deward was a member of the Kim's Friday Night Hamburger Club. In his free time, he greatly enjoyed fishing and woodworking.

In addition to his first wife, Deward was preceded in death by his parents and 10 brothers and sisters.

Deward is survived by: his wife, Jane; two sons, Steve Cagle and wife, Mary, of Dallas, and Tim Cagle and wife, Glenda of Mineola; two daughters, Jeanette Stone and husband, Charles, of Riesel, and Martha Halverson and husband, Jim, of Frankenmuth, MI; Seven grandchildren, Nancy Ward and husband, Brian, Kyle Stone and wife, Amy, Doug Cagle, Katy Cagle, John Cagle, Luke Cagle, and Philip Halverson; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Madeline Ward; and several nieces and nephews.

His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
