Dolores Colunga de Moreno, 78, of Waco, Texas, passed away on February 22, 2025. Ms. Moreno was surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in her final weeks.
Dolores was born in San Luis Potosi Mexico on April 13, 1946. After losing her own mother at the age of 12, Dolores left primary school to help raise her younger siblings. They moved from home to home after their mother’s passing and were raised by their grandmother and several aunts throughout their youth in Mexico. Dolores eventually met her husband Andres Moreno and came to the United States with her husband and children in 1974 and settled outskirts of Waco. Ms. Moreno loved seeing her children run around their country home in Birome, Texas. After moving to Waco, she enjoyed watching her telenovelas, nurturing her roses and plants around the house, and assisting raising her grandchildren in her Waco home of 37 years. She loved her family and looked forward to their visits. Even after all her children moved out of the house, she would prepare big meals for everyone to enjoy when they would come visit. The family is grateful for the time and extra time they were given with their sweet mother.
Dolores is survived by her 11 children, Pascual Colunga and spouse Yadira Castillo, Jorge Moreno, Carlos Moreno, Norma Kately and spouse George Kately, Ruben Moreno, Margarita Moreno, Maria Escobedo and spouse Jose Escobedo, Elizabeth Jaimez and spouse Isai Jaimez, Juan Moreno and spouse Crystal Moreno, Angelica Moreno, and Edwardo Moreno; 28 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Andres Moreno; mother, Maria de Jesus Arenas Rocha; 2 brothers; 2 sisters; and her great-granddaughter, Nayeli Silvas.
Visitation will be held from 6-8pm at OakCrest Funeral Home in Waco, Texas on Thursday February 27th with the Rosary at 7pm. A Catholic Mass will be held the following day at 10am at Nativity Catholic Church in Penelope, Texas. Burial afterwards at St. Joseph Penelope Cemetery.
