Don Lester Ayers

Don Lester Ayers "Papa Don", 73, of Waco, passed away Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012. God opened his arms and accepted another cowboy into heaven. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan 14, at OakCrest Funeral Home with the Pastor Cary Killough officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery with a luncheon after burial at Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Robinson. Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard.
Mr. Ayers was born Dec, 16, 1938, in Tundra, Texas, to William "Blackie" Lester Ayers and Frances Maxine Fugate Ayers. Don grew up in East Texas and graduated from Buckner High School in 1958. After returning from service in the Air Force, he moved his family to Waco. There, Don taught barber college and worked for a local business for many years before moving on to pursue his passion of caring for his family, friends and many, many horses. Don was a loving spirit with a servant's heart. He was a devoted, honorable, and simple man who lived his life unselfishly and gave something to everyone he ever met. Don never met a stranger and lived his life by the golden rule. He was a man of his word and he believed a man's handshake and his word was enough for him.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dan Neal Ayers and Larry Jack Ayers; and brother-in-law, Richard Dominquez.
Don is survived by his wife, Eva Ayers, and her parents, Johnny and Inez Rodriguez; daughters, Mary Frances and husband, Mark Tepe, Debbie Sue Dunkin and fiancée, Wayne Snyder; son, Michael Don Ayers; daughter, Chrissy and husband, Kyle Donaldson; son, Mickey Beavan; brother, Tommy Ayers and wife, Jan; sister, Jane and husband, Ken Cunningham; brother-in-law, Ceasar Dominguez; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Ayers and Stella Rodriguez; grandchildren, Wesley and Presley Tepe, Caitlyn, Dillon and Cassidy Dunkin, Jimmy Don Ayers and Tyler Donaldson; the breakfast and coffee group in Elm Mott, and many more nieces, nephews, friends, and of course, his horses.
Pallbearers will be Nick Vallejo, Ricky McGee, Babo Chort, Dutch Chort, Johnny Marek, Johnny Dawson, James Bridges, Andrew Courtney. The family would like to acknowledge all of his close friends as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers , memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, a children's orphanage or a charity organization of your choice.
