Donald Filgo

Donald M. Filgo, 79, of Woodway, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2011. Fellowship with the family will be 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 28, at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit, 1624 Wooded Acres Drive. Graveside services with military honors will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Rosemound Cemetery with Rev. Eric Howell officiating. A celebration of life service will follow beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Day Spring Baptist Church.

Mr. Filgo was born February 4, 1932 in San Angelo to Mayne John Filgo and Byrtle Kidwell Filgo. He graduated from Waco High School in 1950 and attended Arlington State University. He bravely served his country in the US Army from 1952 until 1954 in Korea where he coordinated targets for artillery fire while attached to a South Korean unit as a Forward Observer. Upon returning home, he met and married the love of his life, Linda Gail Williams. They were married December 27, 1957 at Highland Baptist Church. Mr. Filgo attended Texas Christian University and graduated in 1958 with a B.S. in Music Education. He served as the Band Director at Richfield High School from 1963 until 1970 and from 1970 until his retirement in 1993; he served as the Band Director at Midway High School.

In his earlier years, he loved fast sports cars and motorcycles, but in his years as a husband and father, his interests turned to sailing, tennis, golf and outback mountain "Jeeping."

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Marc Jeffrey Filgo; and nephew, Colby Alan Williams.

Mr. Filgo is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda Filgo; sons, John Skipper Filgo of Woodway, Scott Kendrick Filgo of San Antonio and Kelly Mayne Filgo and wife, Ellen Miriam Filgo of Waco; two grandsons, Jack Mayne Filgo and Joey McGregor Filgo; brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, John and Sondra Williams of Azle and Dr. Mike and Claudia Williams of Lakeway; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; and thousands of beloved former music students.

In lieu of floral arrangements, memorials in Mr. Filgo's name can be directed to either the Alzheimer's Association or to Providence Hospice.
