Donald Mcgregor

Donald E. McGregor, 88, of Woodway, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2006. Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 16, 2006, at the OakCrest Funeral Home, with Rev. Mike Toby and Rev. Ron Cansler officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.

Don was born December 22, 1917 in Hill City, South Dakota to Wilson and Sadie McGregor.

Mr. McGregor was employed by Gutzon Borglum during the sculpture of Mount Rushmore National Monument in the Black Hills of South Dakota. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and retired from Rohr Industries in Chula Vista, CA in 1976.

Don was a very active member of San Diego First Southern Baptist Church and helped start two Southern Baptist Missions, one of which was started in his home. He also was active in the community and served two elected 4-year terms on the Penasquitos Planning Board.

After living in San Diego, CA for 53 years, Don moved to Waco, Texas in l993. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Woodway and a member of Celebration Singers choir. He also was a member of the Waco Senior Kiwanis Club and a member of Mount Rushmore National Monument Society.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wilson McGregor.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Marea; daughter, Donna Cansler and husband Ronald of Flowery Branch, GA; son, Wilson "Bud" McGregor and wife Linda of Waco; grandchildren, Tracey Smith and husband Michael, Ronald Cansler, Jr. and wife Melinda, April Jenkins and husband Jeff, Kristin McGregor, Alison Weeks and husband John; great-grandchildren Kayla and Erin Cansler and Jeffrey, Clayton and Owen Jenkins; nieces Rose Marie Smith and Lona Archer; and godchildren Layla and Walter Davis.

Pallbearers: Charles Bass, John Drivdahl, Roger Hankins, Dink Hunnicutt, Ed Liles, and Matt Welstead. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bud Jones and Walt Owens

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Providence Hospice or charity of your choice.
