February 24, 1918 – June 7, 2007
Mrs. Paul A. (Doris Lee Eggebrecht) Concilio, 89, of Waco, passed peacefully from this life on June 7, 2007 surrounded by her family. There will be a visitation at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd., on Sunday Evening from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial video honoring her life will be shown during the visitation times. The graveside service will be on Monday, June 11 at 2:00 p.m. at Rosemound Cemetery with Dr. Ron Durham officiating. All are welcome.
Doris was born February 24, 1918 in Rosebud, Texas to Nora and James Eggebrecht. As one of thirteen siblings, she learned all the skills necessary for life. She embraced all the chaos, love and togetherness that a large family brings and was so proud of her place in that family. After graduation from Waco High School, she found employment as a switch board operator at the telephone company. It was at that time that she met and fell in love with Paul Concilio. The marriage was put on hold as Doris's job require that she not be married, but a change of policy effective midnight preceded a two a.m. court house wedding on October 6, 1940 surrounded by close friends and family.
While rearing four children, she and Paul owned and operated Paul's Shoe Store. After working side by side for 25 years, her beloved Paul passed away suddenly at the age of 48. It was with great faith, strength and perseverance that she continued running the store, where so many generations of children fondly recall their visits for new shoes. There was the squeaky rocking horse, the cycling clown overhead and the always anticipated sweet sucker at the end of your visit. The business remained a fixture in Waco for 57 years. She was a superb business woman who was respected by all who were fortunate to know her.
Alone at 42 with four children and a business to run, it is only as we have grown older that we fully understand her amazing spirit and wisdom. As a mother and grandmother, she supported all of our endeavors and was our greatest cheerleader. We will miss her easy smile, unconditional love and generosity. Whether she was working tirelessly at the store, or teaching her cherished grandkids to read from her favorite chair, she lived her life with the utmost integrity and selflessness.
She was a member of the Columbus Avenue Baptist Church. She is survived by her four children and spouses: Paul and Jeannette Concilio, Tisa Bilek, Carole Concilio, Cathy and Carl Bryant.
Grandchildren are Paul and Melissa Concilio, Kenneth and Sharon Concilio, Justin and Toni Peebles, Ashley Peebles, Malissa and Brandon Tate, Mathew Bryant and Kim, Bethany and Britney Binder, Adam and Natasha Bilek, and Alex Bilek.
Great-grandchildren are Makenzie Tate, Kaden and Kelan Bilek.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to a very special family member Johnnie Ross. She has been part of our lives since we were young children and without her we would not have made it through the last few years. Her devotion to our mother and sister is without question. Her humor and gentle touch sustained us all.
