Inez Hendricks

Doris Inez Hendricks, 83, of Waco, passed away early Saturday morning, May 31, 2003, at a local nursing home.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2003, at Waco Memorial Park South (formerly called Chapel Hill) with the Rev. Mark Wible officiating. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.

Inez was born February 18, 1920, in Palestine to Elijah W. and Mary Della (Griffith) Thompson. The family moved to Waco in March of 1930. She was a longtime member of Highland Baptist Church, and worked for many years as a nurse?s aide at Hillcrest Hospital in the newborn infants section.

She was proud to serve her country as a PFC in the Women?s Army Corps from November 1942 to February 1943, and reenlisted in 1949. She was stationed in Florida and Cheyenne, Wyoming. She was a member of the American Legion.

She will be greatly missed by the residents of William Booth Garden Apartments where she had resided for the past ten years.

Inez was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Eunice Nell Thompson and Ruby Ballard, and two brothers, Archie E. Thompson and Vernon E. Thompson.

Survivors include a daughter, Helen Inez White of Waco; sisters, Audrey R. Peterson and husband Pernell of Waco, and Evangeline R. Terry and husband Metz of Bradenton, Fla.; grandson, Nicholas White and his wife Stephanie of Waco; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of Hillcrest Hospice for their care, as well as to the staffs of Hillcrest Hospital, Quality Care, and Jeffrey Place Nursing Homes, and for the special love shown to Inez and the family by lifelong friend, Rilla Lawson.
