Doris Ruth (Reid) Keltner, 74, of Waco, passed away Saturday morning, February 1, 2003, at her home.

SERVICES

Services will at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2003, in the OakCrest Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Dan White of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church will officiate, assisted by Rev. Jack Chastain of Houston, a family friend. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque.

PERSONAL LIFE

Doris was born December 10, 1928, in Waco, the daughter of James M. Reid, owner of Packard Waco, and Katherine E. (Morris) Reid. She graduated from Waco High School as a member of the Class of 1946. She attended Baylor University and received her BS in education from Texas Women?s University in 1951.

After college she was employed for a time at the Veterans Administration in Waco. In 1952, she married Jack D. Keltner of McGregor. Their son, Donald, was born in 1969. She was a long time member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHER

Doris taught elementary school for 40 years in Central Texas, 26 of those in the Waco Independent School District. During her tenure with WISD, she served as Fourth Grade Lead Teacher at Provident Heights Elementary. She also served on several committees and conducted workshops for teachers.

She especially enjoyed school art and decoration projects for which she had a well known talent. Doris treasured the many friendships she made both at work and in the community over the years. She retired from teaching in 1999, and enjoyed substitute teaching from 2000 ? 2002.

SURVIVORS

She is survived by her son, Donald Reid Keltner of Waco.

Pallbearers will be George L. Brinegar, Morris Drumm, Carter Glass, Bill Ferguson, Joey Bechtel, and Chris Sellers. Honorary pallbearers will be Darrin Ray of Buffalo, NY, Lt. Col George A. Brinegar of Ft. Riley, Ka., John W. Templer of Amarillo, Jay Womack of Beaumont, and Hal Jones of Ft. Lauderdale.
